When Peter was on his boat, frustrated at the water for not bringing forth any fish that day, a stranger called out: “Throw your net to the other side of the boat, and you’ll catch”. Now isn’t that the most ridiculous-sounding advice ever? Any good fisherman would know that it doesn’t matter which side of the boat a net is tossed, it won’t change the yield of fish. Yet this is exactly what Jesus said. God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong (1 Cor 1:27).
We may think we are wise in our own conceit, but faith in what God says is our deliverance; even if what He says sounds foolish. So, even when what God says doesn’t make sense, will you cast your net?
